The vision and aim for this project has been divided into two phases. The first phase aims to preserve the historic landscape and architectural elements , through the conservation of long distance views; the landscape setting of the Hall; the restoration of the Walled Garden and adjacent historic ponds. Also the project aims to conserve significant buildings such as the Temple and Norwood Lodge. This will encourage greater 'access' to the park, by increasing public access, upgrading the park's furniture, signage and path network.

Having spoke to the Project Manager, the progress of the project had succumbed to a slight delay due to problems with procurement. It is anticipated that the main work will commence next year.

The aim of this project is to regenerate Markfield Park for the 21st century and in doing this, ensuring that its heritage is preserved for future generations. Through extensive public consultation with both users and non users of the park who live locally, as well as stakeholders in Markfield, a master-plan has been produced which includes the facilities that local people have identified as being vital for the improvement of the park.

Recent correspondence with the Project Manager suggests that the project is meeting deadlines and running smoothly.

The South Park Gardens project seeks to restore and enhance South Park Gardens, a grade II listed park just outside Wimbledon town centre. The project will see the reinstatement of the paths and paving, the creation of an area around the former bandstand, the restoration of the drinking fountain and the re-planting of trees and shrubs to the original 1900 design. Parks furniture and signage will be unified, and repairs to the existing buildings will be carried out. A series of educational activities will ensure that a wide public have the opportunity to learn about the history of this 'pocket park.'

The project is working well with the original outline on schedule, work is likely to commence towards the end of April.

This project is designed to deliver the next steps in physical, intellectual and organisational change needed to truly unify the Museum and Gardens. It is the next stage in implementing this strategic aim, following the highly successful HLF funded Centenary Development completed in 2002.

The project has responded to key demands from its audience: for better links between the Museum and Gardens; better promotion of the Gardens; more opportunities for participation and recreation; improvements to infrastructure and physical access and more support for formal learning in the Gardens.

This manifests itself in the creation of both new programming of events and activities and key physical changes to the site. The proposal is for unified theming and programming of events and activities across the site under the broad theme of 'Local to Global', which is aimed both at the leisure users, at targeted groups identified in the ADP and those engaged in formal education and training. It also involves new staffing and volunteer activity across the Gardens and Museum.

These new activities are enabled by the proposed changes to the physical environment of the Gardens. The key changes are the creation of the Learning and Community Base to house new programming; new planting such as the Community Food Garden; new linked interpretation across the Museum and Gardens; addressing of the poor quality of the Bandstand Terrace which is the key destination point in the Gardens (including the restoration of its historic features), the provision of a music play area and the new proposals for the animal enclosure.

Underpinning all these improvements are plans to upgrade failing infrastructure including paths, walls, drainage and fencing.

Raphael Park, in Romford, Essex, represents a fine example of the endurance of an original parkland, part of the historically important Gidea Park estate, and was sympathetically transferred into a public park at the start of the 20th century by Herbert Raphael. The urban park today which comprises 17.8 hectares has seen few physical changes, remaining relevant, popular and much loved today by residents and visitors to Havering. The park lies to the north-east of Romford in the Romford Garden Suburb/Gidea Park Conservation Area. It is bounded to the south by the A118 which crosses the canal at Black's Bridge at its southern end, and is surrounded by a network of suburban streets developed from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It is an irregularly shaped site, sloping uphill towards its northern end and broadening out into a large raised plateau, with a low-lying tree-lined valley on the western side following the northern course of the river feeding Black's Canal. On the south side of the A118 lies Lodge Farm Park, constructed on farmland formerly part of the estate, and to the east of the Garden Suburb development is Romford Golf Course.

The park these days is a fine urban park of 17.8 hectares, essentially the town centre park for Romford andmuch loved and visited by the people of Havering and beyond. It comprises different character areas including from south to north: A. Eastern Pleasure Ground - main entrance from Main Road, Romford, former park keepers lodge, seasonal bedding areas, formal landscaping, B. Main Pleasure Ground - parkland landscape with veteran and mature trees overlooking lake, shrubberies, pedestrian entrance from Gidea Close (part of the Garden Suburb), small refreshment kiosk, separate toilet block, two shelters and bandstand, C. Sepentine Lake - original lake from Gidea Hall estate overlooked from the west by rear gardens of Lake View, habitats for fish and wild fowl, island, attractive lakeside walk, D. Formal sports and play area - 12 tennis courts (hard), cricket pitch, football pitch, destination play area including water play funded by Big Lottery Play programme, entrances to the north and east from Brook Road and Parkway respectively, E. Woodland - Decduous woodland with origins from the original Gidea Hall estate with woodland walk and opportunity for improved habitat creation, entrance from Lake Rise.
