Devonport, The People's Park, Plymouth City Council Contact Name: Mr Chris Coldwell Contact Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Contact Number: 01752 305598 The Devonport, People's Park Project will aim to restore and re-position Devonport Park as The People's Park for the people of Devonport, Stoke and Morice Town through a partnership led by Plymouth City Council and including Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership and the newly constituted Friends of Devonport Park. The projects main areas of work are involved in tackling the overriding community concerns over security, safety and a decline in the park by means of maintenance and ownership through the creation of a resident Park Warden who will reside in the restored former Park Lodge as well as the reinstatement of the park boundary railings. Restoration work will be carried out on Devonport Lines, the Doris Gun, the War Memorial, the Sicilian Fountain, the Galatea Memorial, the Napier Fountain and the historic layout of paths. A cafe, toilets, community pavilion and changing facilities will form the central focus and heart of the new project. The provision of quality sports and play facilities including regenerating the existing inadequate play area, tennis courts and grass football pitches and providing sports activities will enable the Park to meet its full neighbourhood area catchment potential and to complement the Brickfields Recreation Ground adjacent. Community engagement is high on the agenda through the work of a Community Education Officer to work on a dedicated basis with the Friends, young people, local schools and the Training Centre. Recent correspondence with the Project Manager has indicated that all aspects of the project are running smoothly and that the proposed deadlines will be met.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it Contact Number: 01278 435389 Burnham on Sea is a coastal town and tourist resort in Sedgemoor District, Somerset, approximately 11 miles north of Bridgwater and 10 miles south of Weston super Mare. It is joined with the neighbouring settlement of Highbridge 2 miles to the south east and the combined population in 2001 was around 18,400. The Landscape setting of Marine Cove is part of the Esplanade to the coastal town of Burnham on Sea. The town stands on flat dune lands on the western edge of the Somerset Levels, facing Bridgwater Bay. From the Esplanade due south, there are views across the Stert Flats towards the Quantock Hills. Facing north, there are open views across the Berrow Flats towards the sand dunes and the island of Steep Holm. The local Grade II Listed landmark of the Burnham Low Lighthouse is a feature in this view. The Church of St Andrew marks the historic core of the town and all the notable buildings making up the Conservation Area are within a short distance of the site. Marine Cove (0.17ha) is a formal, well laid out park designed to provide enclosure and shelter in contrast to the broad, open views described above. The main prospect from within the site is a fine view of the distinctive leaning tower of St Andrew's Church .The presence of the closed churchyard at a raised level and the high stone wall to the Esplanade boundary creates the impression of a sunken garden hidden from sight. The Park was laid out to formal principals within the irregular site boundary. The west elevation to the Esplanade features a central pair of gateways, either wide of which stands a timber framed shelter which provided covered seating areas facing west towards the Esplanade and east towards the gardens. A stone sundial and a lighting column on a stone plinth define the axis of symmetry. The use of natural york stoneflags, geometric shapes, the series of timber pergola arches set on stone piers, shallow radius steps, formal pool and sunken lawns. |
